Many congratulations to CHS Old Girl and long-time member of the Old Girls Association Committee Rae Morrison, who has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Year’s Honours list. Rae, who lives in Portstewart, has been recognised for her services to the community over many years. As reported in the Coleraine Chronicle Rae, a former social worker, has undertaken many voluntary roles both before and after retirement, including as chair of the Portstewart Trefoil Guild, as a member of the local District Policing Partnership, and as chair of the Independent Monitoring Board at Magilligan Prison. She has also organised art classes and computer classes for older members of the community and was a founder member of the Causeway University of the Third Age (U3A). In addition Rae has undertaken work for Portstewart Presbyterian Church, producing a war memorial record of members of the church who served in the two world wars, and compiling a book of ‘memories’ which raised significant funds for the church. We are delighted that Rae’s work has been recognised in this way.
